The Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament is seeking a dedicated Policy Adviser for the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), for a one-year contract.

Your work will be essential in ensuring that the Union’s priorities on industry, research and energy align with the urgent needs of the climate and social justice. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape policy at a genuinely pivotal moment: European industrial strategy, research and innovation frameworks, and energy policy are being rewritten as the continent grapples with the twin pressures of decarbonisation and geopolitical instability. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring that climate adaptation, resilience, and social justice remain at the heart of these debates — helping to build an industrial and energy transition that is not only green, but fair.

Description of the function

This role involves:

• Political advisory functions: Following the ITRE Committee agenda, advising Greens/EFA MEPs, negotiating with other political groups, and maintaining close contact with the ITRE secretariat;
• Legislative and committee procedures: Preparing and following up on committee and coordinators’ meetings, and contributing to legislative and non-legislative work at committee and plenary level, including reports, resolutions, amendments, and voting lists;
• Policy analysis and MEP support: Assisting and briefing MEPs on key ITRE issues, conducting research, and preparing policy papers and briefings on Group and Committee priority topics;
• Interinstitutional relations and strategic communication: Establishing working relations with EU institutions and relevant international bodies, engaging with the services of the Commission and Council, including attending to trilogue meetings. Contributing to political and press work strategy in relation to budgetary policies, and monitoring relevant developments at EU, national, and international level.

Profile

To fill this key position within the Greens/EFA Group Secretariat, we are looking for an excellent team player who is open-minded, proactive, and comfortable working in a multicultural environment, and who is familiar with the values of the Greens/EFA Group.

Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Very good knowledge of EU policies in the fields of EU industry policy, as well as Research & Innovation and Energy policy;
• A minimum of two years of professional experience in line with the role;
• Very good knowledge of English and of at least one other EU language;
• Excellent communication skills, flexibility and kindness;
• Very good writing and organisation skills;
• Strong analytical and negotiations skills.

Assets

Demonstrating (one of) the following competencies will be considered an asset:

• Knowledge of the European institutions, EU legislation and decision-making process;
• Experience in a political environment and a multicultural surrounding; knowledge of the Greens/EFA political positions, in particular in relation to the fields of competence;
• Educational background in line with the function;
• Previous experience and specific knowledge of progressive policies to green EU industry and on links between industry, trade, strategic autonomy and climate resilience.

Under article 82, (3) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants (CEOS) of the European Communities, candidates must:

• Be citizen of an EU Member State unless an exception is authorised by the authority referred to in article 6 (1);
• Enjoy full rights as citizen;
• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws concerning military service;
• Meet the character requirements for the duties involved.

C/ Salary and other benefits

This is a fixed-term contract as a contractual agent, Function Group III, with the duration of one year (replacement). The indicative basic salaries grid is:

Grade: Basic Salary

FG III 8 (≤ 5years of professional experience): € 3 475.62

FG III 9 (≥ 5 and ≤ 10 years of professional experience): € 3 932.44

FG III 10 (≥ 10 and ≤ 15 years of professional experience): € 4 449.30

FG III 11 (≥ 15 and ≤ 20 years of professional experience): € 5 034.15

FG III 12 (≥ 20 years of professional experience): € 5 695.80

The precise grade is determined by the services of the European Parliament on the basis of professional experience, supported by appropriate documentation.

In addition to the basic salary, various allowances may be granted depending on the candidate’s personal situation (household allowance, expatriation allowance, child allowance, etc.). These allowances are determined by the services of the European Parliament.

The successful candidate will also benefit from the Joint Sickness Insurance Scheme of the European Union.
